Postia alni

Postia alni

Fomitopsidaceae

Postia alni is a tricky polypore with few UK records. Our sole Sussex report (pictured) is from a suburban park in Crawley where it grew on Ulex europeaus branches. This collection was notable by the presence of large +/- globose crystals in the hymenium, hyphae that penetrated the hymenium and complete lack of blueing. The identity of this specimen was confirmed using DNA analysis.
